Wolf Queen Tag - Deb Stephens

Hello Everyone.

I'm here on the Dusty Attic blog to share my large Wolf Queen Mixed media Tag with you.

Wolf Queen Main

This project was done a large MDF 6x12' Tag and I wanted to challenge myself to use new colours, as I traditionally veer towards a grungy, steampunk look.

It was easier than I thought to create a whimsical/boho themed tag incorporating the Dusty attic stencils and chipboard with other mixed media products. I am my own worst enemy, as I overthink everything and am scared of ruining things. I convinced myself this time, that if the worst happened, I would gesso over everything and start again.

But the worst didn't happen. This project was easy to complete with so many beautiful chipboard designs to choose from like Dreamcatchers, Mini Feathers, Whimsical moons etc. I have listed all the Dusty Attic products used, below.

Beautiful Moment - Rikki G - Mood Board Inspiration

Good morning how are you? Rikki here today with my final post for May..... where has the time gone? I think this time last year we just we in lockdown I remember feeling very disappointed as it was my Birthday and my 40th..... well things happen and if nothing I have learnt from these couple of years is to not get too fixated on plans and learn to roll with things - remembering I cant control everything even though I would like to lol, just ask my kids and hubby.

Today I have a very girly layout for you with plenty of little details that can easily be added to any of your projects. This layout is also based on the lower half of this months moodboard focusing on the dusty pinks and browns, remember you don't have to use the whole moodboard to enter you can pick some of the colours.

I wanted a nice grungy background, I tend to go through stages and you will start to notice these ''tends'' with my work, where I will do a heap of mixed media, then flick to graphic, then to fussy cutting layouts......

So inspired with mixed media I start with the background using the  Scales Stencil and my Distress Crayons because I dont want to spend all day drying my media.

Once you have done this step you can make blended patches by wetting your finger and tapping it on the thicker part of the colours and blend them out, by doing this your wont have to long to wait for the background to dry.

Once you have your background its all about building up all your form of your layout, this is where large chipboard peices can really make a difference, for this layout I used Flowering Vine  as the piece to work around, to prep the piece I just used white spray paint and went from there......

Add your photo to the layout then foam mount the Flowering Vine piece over the top of your photo.

First I add all the large fussy cut flowers around the Flowering Vine piece remembering to go over some and under sections continue that technique around your photo also.

Once your happy with the paper additions its about now adding chains from the top and in between your flowers..... these I just spray painted white.... while doing that I also do the Carousel HorseBeautiful Moment,Mini Feathers,Chains, and Mini Feather.

To finish off, its all about different textures, I have used a gold glitter sand, gold microbeads, pearls, clear glass beads and rhinestones.

One Winged Angel - Pascale B

Hello Sweeties,

Today I'm up on Dusty Attic blog with a new mixed media panel. I work with another photo of Christina Fisher call the "One Winged Angel".

After priming the HDF panel with white gesso, I glued a piece of tissue paper on the lower half. On the upper half, I added a design with the flourish stencil and modeling paste. When dry, I cover the upper half with brown paint mixed with black gesso.

I painted all the chipboards and the resin elements with the same brown paint mixed with black gesso. I embossed the ATC Frame #4 with Silence is Golden EP.

Before starting to glue anything, I waxed lightly the upper half of the background with Bronze Age wax to highlight the details of the design which have disappeared under the dark brown paint. Then, I started my composition. First, I glued some natural branches, then the frame. From there, I continued with the chipboards: the Spring Blooms #1, the Foliage #23, the small branches #4, the Leafy Corners, and the mini feathers.

When all the elements were glued, I colored them with different waxes starting with the darkest to the lighter. I used Bronze Age, Aged Brass, Vintage Gold, and finally White Gold.

I decided to add more natural elements like lichen painted with copper metallic paint and dry hydrangea flowers.

I finished the composition with gold pearls, mica flakes, and glitters.
