You and Me - Patricia Basson

Hello dear Blogfriends...

Today I am sharing a page for Dusty Attic using one of the photos taken during the Photoshoot we had as a family a few month ago, this is me and Hubby...

I used paper and cutouts from the Craft O'clock collection, Time of Reflections.

I first gesso'd the Botanical Ring and the Lemon Leaves. The leaves I colored by pressing a Delicata Golden Glitz Inkpad from Tsukineko onto them a few times. It really gave a rich Golden color to them.

I used Art Alchemy waxes, Vintage Silk and Sweet Rose on the Botanical Ring and the Leafy Scroll. Both pieces were cut and placed on either side of my photo.

The Swirly Flourish and Mini Caption I colored by mixing Liquid Metals, Metallic Mandarin from Ken Oliver and Alizarin Crimson Brushos powder with some liquid Gel medium resulting in the beautiful two-toned effect. I thinned the mixture with some water and painted the Brackets and Word Tag with it.

Some flowers, Lace, Skeleton Leaves, Chunky Glitter and Metallic Flakes are added to finish this loving page...

every Photo tells a Story - Kristy Abela - Mood Board Inspiration

Hi Crafters!

I really enjoyed the Mood Board this month. I found some amazing masculine themed paper in the new releases from 13@rts. There is a more laid back set and this one here is aimed at teenagers. Its not often we get young male inspiration and this new release is page after page of great ideas. I loved the composition on this piece and really let the paper speak for itself. All it needed was some dimensional accents from our favourite Dusty Attic chipboard and some clever composition. Instead of talking about how I decorated the chipboard I thought I would give you some tips and hints on composition. Let me know on our Facebook page if they help!

I treated myself to something new from the Tim Holtz release and found this tissue paper. Perfect for my puzzle pieces! I used Gel Medium to stick it down and used a light spritz of water to peel off the excess once the underneath layer of Gel medium was dry. Then I added another layer to seal it. Either gloss or matt gel will do the job. If you don't have any Tissue paper you can always paint the chipboard pieces white and use your favourite stamps to get a similar effect!

I really wanted to highlight the circle in the background and use it as the frame for my composition. You will notice that I haven't added any dimensional accents on the left hand side so the eye is really drawn to the collage within the circle. To enhance it I used some regular old string, brushed some water based black dye, and a few staples... Nothing says teen grunge like dirty water and bits of metal!

I matted the background with black Bazzil to frame the composition and I used my finger to run some black paint around the edge of the photo. This created two black square-ish shapes on the page. Repetition of shapes helps create cohesion and also framed the photo in amongst all the bright colours to draw the eye to what was important.

To give the chipboard some place to 'sit' I created a neutral texture in the background with my favourite accessory, Plasterers tape!! I love this stuff because you can cut it at different angles to create some amazing shapes. It also helps to give your mediums something to stick to. Can you see the the gold leaf flakes? How cool are these and they give a touch of an electroplated influence to a page. Can you see how the mesh tape in the background gives it a place to rest? I applied the tacky glue with a pallet knife and because of the ridges you can get a really random effect when you brush off the excess.

I wanted to colour the chipboard to tie in with the background palette. Because it is so bright, adding more colours would confuse the focal point. In this composition we have used black and white as part of our palette. When creating with bright colours we need to 'calm the page down' at some point otherwise our eyes get overwhelmed. Without black and white to do this, grey becomes a great option as a neutral! To break up the layers of chipboard I added some interest by dabbing texture paste on the Broken Bits - Bricks with a brush. I added some variation of colour with chalk paints. If you don't have texture paste you can add some sand to acrylic paint and get the same effect.

A plain white title on top of all the crazy was all I needed to finish it off. See how I used the Grey again to frame what was important on the page?

100% BOY - Adri Du Preez

Hello everyone!

I am sharing my March design team layout with you featuring my grandson James and stunning Dusty Attic chipboard designs.

I am blessed indeed. I have the privilege of looking after this handsome little boy during the day while his mommy is at work and I feel honored that they trust me with their most precious little boy. It is amazing to see him grow and reaching his milestones, his first smile, first teeth and how he discovered his feet for the first time. Today he started blowing bubbles, so absolutely cute. Jamesie makes our world more beautiful, and more amazing. This little boy is so loved!

Here is my layout.

All the chippies except for the cogs and gears were first painted with white gesso, then chalk paint and dry brushed with white acrylic paint. I inked the page pebble with Versa Magic in Aloe Vera.

I randomly covered the cogs and gears with coarse gesso, and when dried I covered all the parts with black gesso. I then dabbed the cogs and gears with a sponge brush and the same colour chalk paint as the rest of the chippies. Then, I dry brushed all the parts with white acrylic paint.

These polaroid frames and Wordpl@y elements are so amazing!

After everything was glued down I added splatters with diluted black and white gesso.

Dreams do come true - Adri Du Preez

Hello everyone!

What a year, and yet I have so much to be thankful for, a new grandson, my husband, children and grandchildren are all healthy, I am healthy...so blessed.

I am sharing my December design team layout with you using some stunning Dusty Attic chippies. These are photos of my daughter and son in law's

maternity shoot.

"Dreams do come true..." holds so much truth that can be life changing. There is something about this phrase that captures me, perhaps it is because we all have dreams, thousands of dreams and so many of my dreams have come true, and I am so thankful!

Here is my layout.

I painted the title, heart arrow, tiny polaroid frame, polaroid frame negative and brackets with white gesso as the base.

Next, I painted the heart arrow and polaroid frames with Americana acrylic paint in Whispering Turquoise and the bracket in Peaches 'n Cream.

The tiny polaroid frame was perfect to highlight the tiniest baby's sonar photo.

The subtitle is a digital brush designed by Katie Pertiet.

Both sets of foliage were first covered with clear gesso and then Distress Oxide in Broken China, Mowed Lawn, Crackling Campfire and Vintage Photo.

Press the four Distress Oxide Ink pads onto a craft mat and spritz with water creating small droplets. I started with the Vintage Photo for the base colour

and slided the chippies through the droplets a few times and dry with a heat tool.

Repeat the process with all the colours and dry in between.

I randomly covered the cogs, with coarse gesso, and when dried I covered all the parts with black gesso. I then dabbed the cogs with a sponge brush and

Americana Acrylic Paint in Traditional Burnt Umber, True Ochre, Georgia Clay and Whispering Turquoise. I dry brushed all the parts with white gesso and added

Art Alchemy Wax in Rich Copper.

I have said it before, but my favourite additions to my layouts are these stunning Wordpl@y elements. I dry brushed them with white gesso and then Americana Acrylic paint in Peaches 'n Cream and Whispering Turquoise.
