I have used one of the frames out of the Scroll Border set along

with the Snow Flakes to create this wintery themed card

I have scrunched the background paper inside the frame along with distressing and inking

the edges of the outside paper to add to the Shabby feel of the Card

Hi Everyone

I love using Pinks and soft colours

 Just a little bit different to the normal "Christmas Colours"

Inking the edges of your papers gives that softness to the edges and

blends them together well.

I have used the Window Frame, Holly leaves, birds and  the flower buds

Painted in the Navajo White.

 



Wedding Cards Suitcase - Louise

When I was asked to decorate this old suitcase for a friends wedding cards to go in, not only was I honoured, but I also knew immediately that I would want to incorporate some Dusty Attic chipboard in there somewhere too.

 

I chose to use Corner Flourish No. 4 as a base for the huge cluster of flowers. I first treated it to some new DA rusting powder though :-)

 

 

Here you can see a closer view of those gorgeous vines from the flourish poking out.

 

In fact, in the end the chippy was covered up more than I would have liked, but the great thing about this particular one is there is still a whole other corner in the pack to have another play with again!

Note Book - Louise

Today I would like to share with you a Dusty Attic Note Book that I have altered the front cover of. Now, I am one of those people who HAVE to keep lists. Then I need lists to remind me of the lists I have. So I needed a place to put all of these lists, note and to-dos down in one place, hence, the new notebook :-) ...and since this will mostly be a work/crafting book, it signifies fun but also time management!

 

After Gessoing, spritzing, texturizing the cover, I cut up and glued down some of the Dusty Attic Clock skeletons. These are not a New DA product, but definitely one I will constantly keep in my stash!

I painted and spritzed these to a similar effect as the cover, and added some more spritz after they had been stuck down to allow drips to run around the chipboard shapes.

 

I then had fun stamping, gluing on metal embellishments and an assortment of Dusty Attic Blooms. These were already spritzed to match the colours used so far, but once in situ, I added some gesso and more spritz until I was happy with the end result.

The final finishing touch was the DA 'Fun Times' chipboard words. I kept these simple with solid black acrylic, and then a brush of gesso to highlight.

Altered Clock - Louise Collins (With Tutorial)

Today I would like to show you an Altered clock I created using Dusty Attic paint and chipboard pieces....

I started by taking the casing of the clock apart, and laying it all out. I used DA paint in Crushed Olive and covered all the metal parts.

                                     

Before reconstructing the clock again, I continued to distress the casing some more with a small brickwork stamp and some sandpaper. 

For the brickwork base, I drew around the casing onto a sheet of cardstock and cut it. I used DA chipboard bricks to create a wall effect and adhered them with hot glue.

Before gluing the wall effect backing in, I used a range of DA paints and a small stiff brush to stipple colour onto the bricks.

For the chipboard fence and vines, I used DA paints again but this time I used a small sponge to dab colour on and blend it in where needed.

Lastly I simply added some blooms and metal pieces to build up the secret garden look.

Thinking of You card - with guilding tutorial - Louise Collins

Occasionally we all have events in life that we need to mark, even if they are not the happiest. Unfortunately I needed to create a card for a friend who has lost a loved one recently, and it would have been his birthday soon.

It is always difficult to know where to start, but when I saw these Mini Ornate Gates from Dusty Attic, I knew they would be perfect.

 

 

To get the worn, peeled gold paint effect, I used black paint first as a base. I applied mine with a paint dabber, as thickly as possible.

 

Before the paint dried, I sprinkled on some gold gilding flakes. These are very thin, and will get everywhere so you need to try to contain them! I worked in the bottom of a pizza box.

 

Press the loose flakes into the wet paint and wait a few minutes for it to dry. This does not take long at all which is why I needed to work quickly.

 

Once dry, use a stiff brush to brush away any loose pieces, and get into all the small details and gaps.

You will be left with a partly gilded chippy which can then be sealed with a matt sealer such as Mod Podge.

 

I decorated mine with leave, flowers and a metal charm to finish.

"This is Life" Layout by DT Louise Collins

When I received my Design Team parcel of goodies from Dusty attic, I was thrilled to find some of the new filmstrip chippies. These have to be one of my favourite DA products so far, but this has left me with a bit of a dilemma. Its hard knowing when to use your favourite chipboard pieces, knowing that you only have one! This is why I decided to show you how to stretch your favourite chippies so you can use them on more than one page.

 

Here I have used the gorgeous filmstrip piece as an example on just one page, but you could use just half and save the second half for another project all together.

 

 

Take your chippie and look at it carefully. Lay it on your blank page, move it about and play with positioning until you find a way that you can cut your chippie in half. Yep, that's right. with a craft knife, cut straight through the middle giving you two pieces. Some pieces will need to be cut vertically, such as a bird cage, and some will not matter.

I used my first half of a filmstrip here as a frame for my photo. Taking the second half I played around with positioning again so I could chop it up some more. You will see I have done it in such a way that it looks as if there are actually three pieces of filmstrip layered on top of one another. Voila! Much more Chippy for your stash :-)

"Life's Little Treasures" ATC & Mini Tutorial by

Hello!!

 

Today I am sharing my take on the July ATC theme 'Trinkets & Treasures".

I LOVED this theme!!

 

My first thought was that I wanted to make a shaker box filled with little metal trinkets and treasures. The Mini Arch Windows were perfect for this.

 

I started by applying gesso to my windows with a make-up sponge.

 

Next I added some double-sided tape to the back and attached a piece of acetate cut to size.

 

Then I used 3D foam to enclose the window area so that all of the little metal trinkets wouldn't fall out.

 

You can see from these steps how very simple it is to create your own shaker box.

"Trinkets & Treasures" ATC by Helena Johansson 

 

 

This months ATC-theme was so much fun to work with! I have used the scraps from a Mini Arch Window (DA0818) and covered the little squares with patterned paper. Then I have used several Dusty in Blooms that I painted in different ways. The larger Bridal Veil flower (DA0805) I covered with Dusty in Color Clear Gloss Varnish (DA0901) and misted with light blue glimmer mist. The little mini roses was also covered with Clear Gloss Varnish and after they dried they almost look like glass flowers - a very cool effect! The smaller Bridal Veil flowers were also glossed, and the blue ones I first misted and I also used brown ink on the edges.

From the new release I've used the little Mini Butterflies #2 (DA0893), just painted with white gesso. These butterflies are so sweet!

 

 

"Treasure" ATC by Louise Collins

 

 

 

For this months ATC theme I wanted to showcase some of my favourite trinkets I like to use on my craft projects, most of which are metal. The NEW Pen Nib chippy was painted with silver acrylic and curled to make it look realistic and teamed with a silver painted vintage key from an older release.

I used the small corner scrolls to add a flourish to my background and spritzed them the same as the ATC backing board. I simply added some little real metal pieces and metal letters to finish.

"My Trinkets" ATC by Mistra Hoolahan

 

Hi everyone!  This month's ATC theme of Trinkets and Treasures was open to a plethora of ideas and so far the ATC's everyone have created are just so gorgeous!  I decided to make an iddy reverse canvas that I had into an ATC, since it was ATC sized!    

I love trinkets and my favourite trinkets are my butterflies, so I have used these sweet Dusty Mini Butterflies #2 to represent them.  

I've popped some plain ones into a little bottle and as they've escaped they've been brought to colour!  Each was painted with Dusty in Colour acrylic paints {I've used Dusty Pink, Lavender Blush and Faded Denim} and then they were touched with some Viva InkaGold Rub in Platinum to highlight them.

The canvas had some texture paste added in random areas to add a little texture and then was sprayed with Smooch Spritz as well as Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Stains to create a rainbow of colour.  To pick up and highlight the textures it was touched with some Viva InkaGold Rub.  Once all the butterflies, jar, flowers and title was set the inside was coated in a thick layer of Dusty in Colour Clear Gloss Varnish and set aside for a few days to dry.  The Varnish really makes the colours pop!

So even though this wouldn't fit into an ATC sleeve... I do hope you like my Trinkets and Treasures inspiration!  I've titled it 'My Trinkets become my Treasures" because they do... once I've used them in my projects, layouts, cards etc... I've created a little treasure with them.

'I Love Your Smile' Layout & 'Create Art' Collage ATC by DT Louise Collins

Hi Everyone!

Here is a layout I created using Dusty Attic Frames as a base for my design.

 

 

I painted the frames black using DA Acrylic paints and moved them around on my page until I was happy with the position of them. I chose one to hold my photo and printed a picture off in a size that would fit the frame.

 

The remaining four frames were backed with some patterned papers that I had already whitewashed and used a chicken wire mask and white paint on.

 

When all the frames were glued down into position on my page, I dripped some black ink using a pipette from under the bottom corner of the frames to look as if they were 'melting' and arranged loads of different flowers and vines around them.

 

 

'Create Art' Collage ATC

 

So this months ATC theme was 'Collage' and I am sure I was not the only one of the Dusty Attic DT that was stumped for a while on this one!

However, when I sat down with all my DA goodies around me, I couldn't help but think about the preschool collages we used to make using scraps and cut outs of magazines, paint, string and any other bits they had around.

So I decided to try to replicate this style...

 

 

I used DA smaller alphabets, corrugated card and a gorgeous leaf.

'Love' Tag by DT Louise Collins

Hi All!

Today I would like to show you a really quick and easy way to get some real dimension from your chipboard pieces, especially for those of you who like to have your pieces 'pop' off the page!

Now, did you know that chipboard is made up of loads and loads of really thin layers? Yep, which is how this technique is made possible.  Take any DA chipboard piece that you would like to add some shape to, and simply start pulling apart some of these layers by carefully pushing a craft knife in-between them.

 

I have used the Flower Layers #4 to create my bloom. I have only used two of the chipboard flower shapes here, one slightly smaller than another... 

 

After separating each of the petals into three layers, I also cut a piece of one of the Mini Wicker Fences to use as stamen. Just push these up through the centre holes from underneath.

 

When it was all constructed, I painted it using DA Acrylic Paints and added to a tag I made...
