Fairy Garden - Emma - Sparkling Rose

 

I Love everything to do with Fairies, Doing a Fairy garden is something I’ve wanted to create for many years. So as soon as Dusty showed me the doors I was in Fairy mode. I just had to create my own little paradise. Adding shimmer, bling and lights I am a happy girl.

Finding Joy in the Little things - Kim Arnold - GUEST DESIGNER

Hi, I am delighted to be back with another guest design project for Dusty Attic. The products that Jen sent me – flowers, a bee hive and bees, word tabs and disks and the title - were perfect for a layout about myself, so I combined them with the Sweet Rush collection from Vicki Boutin to make this layout about finding joy in the little things.

I started by painting up all of the chipboard pieces. The daisies, I painted various shades of beige on the inside of the petals to bright white on the outside. When that was dry, I added yellow and orche to the middle and green on the stems. The title I painted a glittery purple/silver colour – the title in full read Appreciate the Little Things, but I only used part of the title on this layout. I painted the Word Disk and Word strips gold, but used a foam dauber with only a little paint to ensure that I did not get paint down into the engraved words. The bee hive was painted a range of colours till I got it right! It ended up blue with some gold was on it. The bee was painted gold.

I then started work on the layout as the chipboard dried. The background is Foundations paper which is a heavy mixed media cardstock. I used watercolours to paint the middle of the background blue so that it looked like the sky. The cloud is a die cut, but the rainbow was fussy cut from the 6x8 paper pad in the Sweet Rush collection.

To put the base of the layout together (before all the embellishments), I layered various papers behind the 4x6 photo. I then stuck the rainbow down and placed the photo with mats at the end of the rainbow.

Now it is time to embellish! I started with placing the title which includes the paper with “Finding joy in the” on it which I put at the top of the photo, and then the chipboard words “Little things” at the bottom of the photo. I then added the cloud on foam tape.

To the left of the photo, I layered up two of the chipboard daisies and a Word disk with die cut flowers, heart, a lollypop and a clip.

To the right of the photo, I layered Word strips along the edge of the photo and then layered two more daisies with the bee hive and bee with die cut flowers, heart and other elements.

The final touch was to scatter puffy stickers around the two clusters of embellishments.

Guest Designer KIM ARNOLD brings us another spectacular layout below with a VIDEO TUTORIAL.

I have this lovely family photo from Mother’s Day lunch this year. The fairy lights and warm tones of the brick in the background made me think of the grotto paper in the Mintay Woodland collection. I knew that I would be able to use a selection of Dusty Attic Chipboard to build on this theme.

I selected foliage, honeycomb shapes, word strips and disks and a large title from Dusty Attic for this layout. I started by painting all the chipboard elements in metallic or sparkly paints that matched in with the papers. When dry I also added some waxes to some of the pieces. I set everything aside to fully dry.

I fussy cut a variety of pieces from a patterned paper in the collection. The layout came together easily once all the elements were prepared.

I attached the photo with foam tape on the bottom right of the middle of the page. I then layered chipboard foliage, fussy cut elements and die cuts along the left and right of the photo.

I then attached the Broken Bits #11 Honeycomb below the photo with the Making Memories title and a strip from the Word Strips #2 over the Honeycomb.

I then layered pieces from the Hexagons #1 in clusters of three at the top left and bottom right of the photo. I used some of the Word Disks #3 on top of some of the layered Hexagons, offsetting the one in the top cluster.

I finished the layout with some sparkles on the fairy lights on the patterned paper.

Hi, I am Kim Arnold and I am delighted to be doing some guest design work for Dusty Attic. I had these cute pictures of my niece climbing in the park and thought they would be just wonderful with some of the natural floral pieces from Dusty Attic along with the great title piece. I have also used the 49 and Market Meadow collection (which is available in the Dusty Attic Store) as it worked perfectly with the Chipboard I had selected.

I started by painting up all of the chipboard pieces to coordinate with the papers I was using. The large Wildflower floral piece, I painted dark green and the flowers a steel blue. When that was dry, I added green wax over the green paint and a glitter blue pain on the flowers. The title I painted gold and I also painted the Word Disk gold, but used a foam dauber with only a little paint to ensure that I did not get paint down into the engraved words. The butterflies were painted with a combination of brown, a muted red and bronze paints.

 I then started work on the layout as the chipboard dried. The background is a green subtle pattered paper over which I layered a piece of cream subtle patterned paper ripped to approximately 6” wide. I added a salvage strip from another paper in the Meadow collection to the bottom of the layout.

Once I decided where the photos were going to go, I added large rubons of grasses and reeds to the left of where the photos were going to be. I wanted to create the effect of layered wildflowers. I then attached the photo.

It was now time to add the chipboard. The Wildflower piece over the rubons. One of the branches was covering the rubon butterfly, so I trimmed it away and added it to the right of the photos.

The title was added below the photos with a butterfly perched on it. Another butterfly was added to a branch of the Wildflower.

The Word Disk was added over the Wildflower to the left of the photos.

The final touch was to add some of the laser pieces from the 49 and Market Meadow collections and a rubon butterfly above the photos.
