Winter Delights - Mixed Media canvas - Kerstin Filou

Welcome creative friends!

Welcome into the new year,

wish you a year full of fun and joy in creative work !

It's wintertime here, cold, snow and ice have us again fully in the grip.
Snow shovelling is again announced, an occupation  not always great joy arises, our dog sees that but quite different, he is completely thrilled by the snow broom and would like to sit on top and push along.

I created a mixed media layout with lots of snow and ice crystals, not to forget a bird house, which is especially popular in winter in our garden.

I found a lot of suitable theme shapes at Dusty Attic,
love the 3d optic of the bird house and the nature inspired chippies.

I worked mainly with white gesso and added a few color accents with diluted blue acrylic paint and a little brown. I also used die-cuts, which together with the chipboards bring more vividness and fullness to the layout.
To bring more depth to the project, dried wood slices and branches were used.

Winter Garden - Kerstin Filou - Mood Board Inspiration

 Welcome creative friends!

Everything is covered in deep snow, it's freezing cold and you can get some exercise every day by swinging the snow shovel. Winter has us firmly in its grip.

A winter where you look forward to spring all the more. Hopefully it will be soon!

Today I want to share with you a 12 x 12 layout in wintry mood. The colours of our monthly Moodboard inspired me to create a scrapbook page  with some impressions from our garden in winter time.

Adore - Kerstin Filou - Mood Board Inspiration

 Welcome creative friends!

Now it's my turn to feature a layout using the beautiful Dusty Attic Moodboard for January.

Palm trees, sun, beach and sea and these sunset colors on the January Moodboard  make you dream of vacation.

But here it's winter now and we are happy when some snow falls from the sky and the frost enchants nature with hoar frost snow crystals. From the winter walk you get red noses, because outside it's frosty cold and you are grateful for every warming ray of sunshine.

We also like to go into the garden now and feed our winter birds.

That was my inspiration and thoughts behind  this wintry mixed media layout.

Suitable to the winter temperatures I used mainly the cool blue shades and only some little shades of warm tones for the birds.

I love to create with Maja Design papers, here some sheets from the collection 'Holidays in the Alp'.

Little birdies were painted with some diluted acrylic colours

This little bird house is so amazing, you can glue the window and the roof trim  for an additional 3d effect, I added some small icicles too

The trees fits perfectly to this photo, I snowed them in, just like my last project,

Fresh Snow - Kerstin Filou

Welcome in the new creative year!

Today the first fresh snow has fallen this winter, the landscape is transformed into a winter wonderland, simply fabulous and the right inspiration for a new book in Altered Art.

How you can create a book in Altered Art

Basic materials

Dusty Attic chipboards;

Stamperia Paper 'Wintertales';

old book

1 separate the text with the help of a ruler and sharp cutter

Tip: especially with older books where the paper is already very brittle, it does not have to be a straight cut, you can also simply tear them out by hand, this gives a wonderful old weathered look

2 choose a paper of your choice and stick it on the first and last page of your book

3 prime the chipboards with white acrylic paint and

sprinkle deco snow into the paint while it is still wet

Tip:  there are various types available commercially

4  now you can stick on your two book pages, paint them, decorate them with cutting dies,

sayings or whatever other decoration you can think of

Tip: for a 3D effect you can glue the chipboards and cut-out paper motifs between

 the single paper sheets too

5  I have also made a standing surface out of cardboard,  book stands better and you can complement the theme with a landscape

I cut out a matching semicircle and transformed it into a winter landscape with white gesso and Deco snow
