A boy and his dog - Rikki G - Mood Board Inspiration

Good morning how are you? Rikki here today with some grungy, stencil based inspiration for you so why dont you grab your stencils and give it a go.

One of my favourite things to do is to get a little bit messy with my pages and what better than that right? Sometimes its a little hard to start, it depends on my mood really, this is where stencils are a perfect starting point...… and that doesn't mean grab the texture paste.... especially if your time poor or your just too impatient to let things dry.

To start off grab a couple of stencils I have used Dusty Attics Floral StencilCityscape StencilBrick Wall Stencil.

I started off with the Brick Wall stencil and I used this months mood board for my colour inspiration....

Using Tim Holtz Oxides - Wild Honey, Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet and Black Soot.

So I started off by adding pockets of colour on my background, once that was done I went in with the Brick wall Stencil, just in small areas alternating between the three colours, but doing it lightly it allows you to see and add other stencils, like the Cityscape with the Black Soot ink.

To get my city skyline I just moved the stencil across the page- then I realised I needed a bit more height to the city because the photo was going to over it all..... so with a little bit of manipulation I just selected and inked one building at a time.

Once the City is in place you can go back over the top with the Brickwall Stencil and start to darken up your colours. This is also the perfect time to introduce more Black Soot to your background with some background stamps.

With the Floral Stencil, I used only Black Soot, the joy of the oxides are they allow a transparent look without overwhelming the page so you can see the colours underneath and when they dry you can see all your layers without it turning to a bad brown colour.

I wanted to make my Cityscape background to look a bit like a graffiti wall so I just used a black mist and ran it down the corners, and a very cool effect happens where the oxide is placed its has a little resistance so you can see the all the details of the stencils.

Initially I started with the chipboard only being in Black Soot ink but when placed on the background it was lost.....so with my waxes I added the orange and purple on them and used a peacock coloured wax for a highlight and contrast colour.

I hope this has inspired you to go and play with your Dusty Attic Stencils, if you give it a go dont forget to share with us on the  Dusty FANattics Facebook page HERE .

Faith - Joanne Simons - Mood Board Inspiration

Hello creative friends!
Welcome to the blog today.

It's Jo with you to share my take on this months gorgeous mood board.

I decided to create a tag.

First I made my chipboard embellishments using the heart attack panel #1 to sit my foliage and flower on.  You will see in th final pic that I decided to change the flower to go with one that was more in the purple tones.  I tucked in a small birdcage and under my cluster I aslo added the broken bits - Marrakesh.  These are my favourite bits to use to tuck in places for extra texture.

I then covered my chipboard tag in some pretty paper and added some lace and other trims along with some paper foliage.

Here are a couple more close ups

I hope you find some time to play along with us this month!

Leave Footprints... - Adri Du Preez - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello everyone!

This is my layout inspired by the beautiful April mood board using a lot of stunning Dusty Attic chippies.

In August 2019 my daughter and I had the incredible opportunity to visit the West Coast region to see the spectacular wild flowers in bloom. It was amazing.  Every turn in the road paints an unforgettable picture of daisy-filled valleys, eye-catching succulents and the roaring Atlantic Ocean. Sweet moments I will cherish in my heart forever.

Here is the mood board.

and here is my layout.

This is how I treated the chippies.

All the chippies were primed with white gesso.

I painted the edges of the polaroid frames, title, seagulls, mini skeleton fish and drift wood with Americana Acrylic Paint in Slate Grey and Grey Storm. I inked the edges of the drift wood with Black Soot Distress Oxide.

The lighthouse was first covered with coarse gesso which gave the walls a lovely textured look.  Once dried I covered it with white acrylic paint. I then dabbed grey and brown ink on the coarse parts to make it stand out more. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.

I painted the mini jelly fish and crabs with Americana Acrylic paint in True Ochre and Georgia Clay and dry brushed with white acrylic paint.
The sand dollars were colored with Distress Oxide in Iced Spruce and Black Soot.
I inked the fish with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.

The seagrass and seaweed were painted with Americana Acrylic paint in Pansy Lavender, Sour Apple, Arbor Green and Peaches 'n Cream.

The ship wheel and anchor were painted with Americana Acrylic Paint in Traditional Burnt Umber, True Ochre and I dry brushed with white gesso and lightly rubbed with Art
Alchemy Wax in Rich Copper.

The urchin shells were painted with Americana
Acrylic Paint in Plantation Pine, Sour Apple, True Ochre and white acrylic paint and the sea stars with True Ochre and Georgia Clay.

A close ups of the flowers.

These are the Dusty Attic chipboard pieces that I have used.

Thank you for visiting the blog. I hope you find some time to play along with this beautiful mood board.

Happy crafting.
