loving the OUTDOORS - Rikki G

 Good morning Rikki here for Dusty Attic and continuing from my last post its all about Summer Vibes and something a bit brighter and girly.

So it all started with the background, one of my most favourite mediums is Tim Holtz Ocides, why? Its one of the easiest inks to use so for this background its just colours swiped on the pages and then hit with water after.  

So with these inks you really dont have to worry about the colours clashing and making ''mud'' colours, just make sure each colour is dry before you swipe the next colour over the top. 

Once you are happy with that result then hit it with a little water .....

With such a colourful background the best way to treat the chipboard is to just spray it white and then thats it, it showcases your background and it makes the chippy pop !!!

Dont you love this title? I love that you can layer components of it.

Techno Heart - Anat Weksler - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello craft friends!

It's Anat here and I'm back with my Moodboard inspired project.

Dusty Attic's March Moodboard inspired me to create this project which I'm calling Techno Heart. 

To create my project I first cut an heart out of  cardboard, next I've created a ressit effect with Lindy's Embossing Powder, Prima Stamps and a few Lindy's Sprays. 

I used 2 Techno circles to shape my heart, to do that I've  sprinkeld a bit of water on them and carefully  started bending it around my Heart. As soon as it got the shape I attached it to the heart. When dry I colored the bended techno chipboards with redish brown paint and added on top Brushed Amber Finnabair Jewel Paste.

All other chippies and metal elements were colored with different acrylic paints brushing on top Sparkling Onyx and Rose Quartz - Finnabair Jewel Pastes and a bit of metalique waxes.

 Well... A little journey into some serious YouTube distraction got me inspired to create this handmade mini album. I had some Chipboard sheets and thought that this would be a perfect use to create something totally customised... and use up what was left of an old paper pad. 

 

 

To create the cover I used clear crackle and a little bit of Walnut stain on the cracks to give it the weathered look. Once dry I rubbed a distress crayon over the top. This was picked up on the highest cracks and ridges and left just a touch of colour and I blended it with my fingertip. I covered the clock in metallic paint and the rest of my chipboard with chalk paint. Once painted I used a little bit of wax to highlight the edges of the frame.

I used the chipboard filler to support the frame here. The title was a smidge too big! By not overloading the paint and using a sponge to dab it on I was able to save the detailed line work.

Wondering what the Title means? It's the theme of the paper and both my Grans were seamstress. I am planning to add the vintage black and whites I have of them to the album. Dusty attic have a HUGE range of Mini Chipboards. When I get around to filling the album I will add them as accents to the page.

The pages are created as sleeves so there is this cool little opening that you can add an insert into. I really enjoyed creating these pages and the extra wide signatures mean you can pack a lot of stuff in the pages without worrying about how they close.

 

 

The back cover has the other half of the Fancy trim #22. The album is quite wide and it gives your fingers something to grip to when holding it and flipping through.

Champions - Adri Du Preez - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello everyone!

I am sharing my project inspired by the March moodboard filled with so many wonderful Dusty Attic chippies, Prima resins and Mitform Casting metal elements.

This is my son-in-law Juan, who loves mountain biking.  The dirt, adrenaline, mental and physical challenge is what makes him tick, and he is always up for a challenge.

This large gear was cut out off  thick cork by my husband, as I could not find one in any of our craft shops. 

All the chipboard pieces, except the mini captions, were randomly covered with coarse gesso, and once dry covered with black gesso. Next, I painted the parts with using a sponge brush and Americana Acrylic paint in Burnt Umber, Georgia Clay, Tangelo Orange and True Ochre. I dry brushed all the parts with white gesso and Art Alchemy Wax in Rich Copper.

Behind the cork gear I glued a piece of corrugated cardboard that has some randomly torn sections. I covered the corrugated cardboard with black gesso and once dry I painted it the same way as I did the cogs and gears without using course gesso as I felt the torn sections had enough texture.

The three mini captions defines Juan's character so well, and were covered with the Georgia Clay acrylic paint and edged with the Burnt Umber.

I love the Geckos. They were both first covered with clear gesso and then Distress Oxide in Black Soot and Walnut Stain, pressed onto a craft mat and spritz with water and slid through the droplets a few times. Then, dry brushed with Tangelo Orange and white acrylic paint. 

The bike chains were painted with Burnt Umber acrylic paint, edged with black ink and dry brushed with Tangelo Orange and white acrylic paint.

Look at the amazing texture on the cork and corrugated cardboard.

After everything was glued down I added copper glass glitter and splatters with diluted white gesso.
