Christmas Make-Over - Patricia Basson

Hello Dusty Friends!
It's December, can you believe it?
Meaning it's Christmas Decoration time...I was busy setting up all my Snow globes that I display in my kitchen...I bought this Church last year and just did not like the red and white very plasticky look. So into my craft-room I went with the idea to just give it a new lick of paint. Whilst adding Gesso my mind went to "what am I going to do for my Dusty Attic blog-post?" Tada!!! Christmas Lightbulb moment...why not go all the way, add some Dusty chipboards and really give it a decent Make-over. It now proudly stands among my decorations for all to enjoy...

I started by adding the Icicles to the rooftop. Not wanting to waist, I placed the small off-cuts to the windowsills. After gesso I gave them a generous thick coating of Aleene's Glitter Snow Paste. I also added paste to the patches of snow on the Roof.
I colored the roof tiles using Liquid Acrylic from Finnabair, Ink Black and Umber.
The walls were colored with Brown, Cream and Dusty Rust Effect Pastes also from Finnabair. I also added spots of Beton Effect Paste from Cadence to the edges for a more weathered look.

To get the amazing look and textures on the Iron Accent and the Window Shutters (I sadly only had the small size of the oval design left) I painted them with the Ink Black, Umber and Tiger Orange Liquid Acrylics. Once dry I added some Cool Grey Rust Paste onto which I sprinkled the Rusting Powder and sprayed it with some vinegar. I did that a few times to get a thick Rust effect.
The Door Handles got some Bronze Age Metallic Wax and Patina Blue and Green Matt waxes.

I glued the two pieces of the Lamp Posts together to get a more studier piece. I painted a layer of Distress Clear Crackle paint and once dry painted with Tiger Orange paint. Some Ink Black gives in depth.
The Brick pieces were also Gesso's and embossed with Ancient Amber and Dirty Sand Baked Texture embossing powders. I left the parts that did not get Embossing powder, it looks as if it has some snow laying on them this way.

I am very Happy with the look it has now compared to what it was.

And so,
Christmas comes to bless us!
Comes to teach us how to find
The joy of giving happiness
And the joy of being kind.

Little Angel - Michelle Van Oudtshoorn - Mood Board Inspiration

Hello everyone!

I am here today with a layout inspired by the September moodboard:
Isn't this just the most magical moodboard - so beautiful, calming and relaxing. Here is my take on it

I loved the softness and gentleness that the moodboard presents and I thought that same gentleness was present in my photo, and have scrapped my page around it.
I first started with painting the fancy trim and adhered them to the page back to back. The brick wall was shaped by cutting it, and then cutting through and placed this on either side of the trim before adding my matted photo on this.

The flower cluster was then added before adding the "Little Angel" title on this.

I then added the flourishes around the flower cluster

I have then finished adding art stone, paint splatters and some muslin.

These are the products I have used:

Thank you for popping by,
Michelle

Altered Notebook - Joanne Simons

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by and spending a little time with me today.

I hope you are all well and safe wherever you are in this big wide world.

Today I thought I would share with you a notebook which I altered with some of lovely Dusty Attic Chipboard.

This was so much fun to make and I definately got my hands dirty which is something I don't often enjoy!

I created some texture on my cover first with some pastes and also added the Brickwork stencil with some ink for an extra bit of layering and colour.

I then covered my Cog Cluster with some paint and highlighted it with some yellow rust paste.  The texture is a little hard to see but it looks great.  I also added some extra cogs from the Cogs no. 3 as well.

For a bit of extra interest I covered the Broken Bits #1 numbers in black gesso and added some paint and waxes to them.

Here is a couple of close shots so you can see all the texture

Big Memories - Kristy Abela

Hi Everyone, Hope you are having a fabulous crafty day...
As I write this I am getting excited!!
I am about to head off on an cruise ship with Antonis and Farrel. Woot Woot.
Classes & glasses and a few sun filled, fun filled days!
This layout I have created for you from am different kind of excursion. Before I lost all hope of getting them interested in culture and history I took them for a trip into Sydney for the day. This was taken outside of the Mint. In this layout I wanted to have the industrial feeling from inside the building come through. Hope you enjoy!!

Not often do I show my 'Behind the Scenes' images but I thought I would today. When I design an layout I go through a couple of stages of 'staging'. I pull out all possibilities for the collage and layer them all over my page trying to get a feel for how it will look and for what colours I will need.
Does anyone else do this?

1. I started with my background. I tore out pieces from the pipe works paper to create an industrial grungy collapsed wall. I added some cobbled stone die cuts to start building the layers that my photo would sit on.
2. I covered the paper background in clear gesso and used some sandpaper to scuff it up & distress it.
3. Then used modelling paste in a dark metallic silver with a Metal Plate stencil and using white modelling paste through a Cross hatch stencil. there were lumps and bumps.

4. I covered all my chip board with white gesso. The number panel pieces I cut from the larger chipboard I painted roughly so we would have lots of bumps on it when it dried.
5. I sprayed a generous layer of Shimmer spray onto the chipboard and let it pool. When I dried it off with the heat tool it pools and reveals all the fab shimmery colours.

I left the compasses 'naked' and embossed the title and the wall clocks.

Using a matt paint in a dark colour to frame the photo with broken pieces. I just love the way you can tuck them in behind a collage and they fit perfectly every time. My ABSOLUTE fave Dusty chippy!!

I finished off my collage with some toppers of Sisal, Metal Charms, Micro Beads, & Paint splatters.

Close ups of some of the texture in my Chipboard & background anyone?  I also sneaked in a final chippie in.

Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you in our Facebook Dusty FANattics group soon. Love and light, till next time!!
