Today's Memories - Kristy Abela - Mood Board Inspiration

Once a year we have a very special day to Celebrate...

When I visited my now hubby's parents for the first time, Nine years ago, I noticed memorabilia on the wall referring to my birthday. I casually asked and discovered my in-laws were married on my birthday. Its been a big day of double celebration ever since... This was a few years back... However, this year they celebrate 50 years together... Congrats to them!

I have used this months Mood Board as inspiration for my page.
You can enter your own creation into the comments section on the

I used the background to help bring the page to life. In this collection there was also a sheet that had abstract cut out elements that I fussy cut. I used them to shadow the original page. I added some modelling paste and sprinkled embossing powder on it. Once dry I heated it and got a variegated look.

Here are the elements I used to bring my page to life.

I have always loved matting... Modern pages have stopped using a quick easy way to draw the eye to a focal point so I thought I would play around with it on this months layouts. I added a squiggly frame to the photograph to help block out some of the background noise.

My favorite element was the title.I used chalk paint and paint pens to create a weathered looking title and used white pen to accent it. I love the way the white lines give dimension to the 2D embellishments.

I used lots of layering and foam tape to recreate the effect of layered flower. Stars were for wishes and hearts for happiness.

Check in on the Dusty Attic Facebook page - Dusty Fanattics...a place to share and inspire... I look forward to seeing your creations!! Thanks for looking!!

My Girl Ziva - Belinda Spencer - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello Dusty Attic fans!

It's Belinda here today to share my latest layout for The Dusty Attic inspired by the May mood board and featuring lots of fun chipboard pieces and some Dusty In Colour Paint.

'My Girl Ziva'

Here's a reminder of the gorgeous mood board for this month:

For my layout I began by applying some Mountain Meadow Dusty In Colour paint to my background with a palette knife. I love the messy look a palette knife gives. Once the paint was dry, I used the Distressed Grid stencil with some heavy white gesso to add some interest. I flicked over some more colour using Posca Paint Pens.

Next I painted all of my chipboard pieces with several coats of heavy white gesso letting them dry between coats. Once the gesso was dry, I painted some of the pieces with Dusty In Colour Paints in Oceania and Dusty Pink. Some of the pieces I left white to break up all of the colour on the page and also because I just love the look of crisp white chipboard pieces on my pages.

My favourite thing is layering! Lots of layering!! So my next step was to layer all of my chipboard pieces as well as patterned papers in the mood board colours and my photo. Oh and I used a leftover 'negative' piece from a set of tabs that you can see poking out at the top of my photo/paper stack. I love to find ways to use up my leftover bits of chipboard so nothing goes to waste.

Here's what I used:

DA0912 Dusty in Colour Oceania
DA0916 Dusty in Colour Mountain Meadow

DA0862 Mini ABC Set Lower

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope you find some time to get creative with awesome Dusty Attic products too.

Cheers
Belinda

Best Friends - Adri Du Preez - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello everyone!

Here is my layout inspired by the beautiful May mood board and some stunning Dusty Attic chipboard pieces.

This layout celebrates the beautiful friendship between my daughter and her best friend Leani.  They said their goodbyes on Saturday morning when Leani and her husband Neil left for Australia.  I took these photos of the two girls in April 2012.  Leani borrowed these fur hats and shawls from her Gran and we had such a fun photo shoot.  I followed the shades of the mood board, but just brighter, as this is after all a celebration.

Journaling : We wish you a very safe and fulfilling journey abroad, and pray that the Lord guide your every move, and may this new journey bring you some of the most beautiful and magical experiences of your life. Your friends and family in South-Africa will miss you like crazy, but I am sure they are all happy for the opportunity you've got to experience life in another country.

Here is my layout.

and here is the mood board.

All the chippies were first covered with white gesso.

I colored the title with a white Uni Posca Paint Marker and the berries of the Foliage #16
with a pink Uni Posca Paint Marker.

I painted the Foliage #4 with Americana Acrylic Paint in Green Mist, Mint Julep Green,
Sour Apple and Whispering Turquoise and dry brushed with white acrylic paint.

The Foliage #14 were painted with Americana Acrylic Paint in Mint Julep Green and
dry brushed with white acrylic paint.

The ATC Frames and Fantasy Fronds were heat embossed with Ranger white
embossing powder.

Some close ups.

I used my favorite Wordpl@y elements.

These are the  Dusty Attic chipboard pieces that I have used.

Thank you for visiting the blog.  I hope find some time to play along with this beautiful
mood board.

A Captured moment - Michelle Van Oudtshoorn - Mood Board Inspiration

 Hello Dusty Attic fans

I am back with a layout using the May moodboard as inspiration.

I drew inspiration from the photo to create my layout

I have used two Queen Vintage Frames by Nuneka (DA2742) to frame my photos. I first painted these frames with Prima Alchemy paint, before adding the photos. These were then added to the paper on foam tape, before adhering my fussy cut leaves and ivy vines DA2601

The ivy leaves have also been painted with Prima Alchemy paint and then rubbed with wax.

I then added the flowers
I have then added the title from the mini captions DA1834

Thanks for visiting the blog - and you can enter the Dusty Attic monthly challenge by using the May Moodboard as inspiration and enter on the Dusty Fanattics page on Facebook. You could win of two $50 Dusty Attic vouchers!

Beautiful Moment - Rikki G - Mood Board Inspiration

Good morning how are you? Rikki here today with my final post for May..... where has the time gone? I think this time last year we just we in lockdown I remember feeling very disappointed as it was my Birthday and my 40th..... well things happen and if nothing I have learnt from these couple of years is to not get too fixated on plans and learn to roll with things - remembering I cant control everything even though I would like to lol, just ask my kids and hubby.

Today I have a very girly layout for you with plenty of little details that can easily be added to any of your projects. This layout is also based on the lower half of this months moodboard focusing on the dusty pinks and browns, remember you don't have to use the whole moodboard to enter you can pick some of the colours.

I wanted a nice grungy background, I tend to go through stages and you will start to notice these ''tends'' with my work, where I will do a heap of mixed media, then flick to graphic, then to fussy cutting layouts......

So inspired with mixed media I start with the background using the  Scales Stencil and my Distress Crayons because I dont want to spend all day drying my media.

Once you have done this step you can make blended patches by wetting your finger and tapping it on the thicker part of the colours and blend them out, by doing this your wont have to long to wait for the background to dry.

Once you have your background its all about building up all your form of your layout, this is where large chipboard peices can really make a difference, for this layout I used Flowering Vine  as the piece to work around, to prep the piece I just used white spray paint and went from there......

Add your photo to the layout then foam mount the Flowering Vine piece over the top of your photo.

First I add all the large fussy cut flowers around the Flowering Vine piece remembering to go over some and under sections continue that technique around your photo also.

Once your happy with the paper additions its about now adding chains from the top and in between your flowers..... these I just spray painted white.... while doing that I also do the Carousel HorseBeautiful Moment,Mini Feathers,Chains, and Mini Feather.

To finish off, its all about different textures, I have used a gold glitter sand, gold microbeads, pearls, clear glass beads and rhinestones.

Flowering Vine

Scales Stencil

Carousel Horse

Chains – 4pc

Mini Feathers
