Creepy Fright Night - ATC's Robin and Olga

CREEPY FRIGHT NIGHT
Theme for October

I used
Coat of arms add on #2 DA0833
mini NUMBER set DA0863
Branch #1 DA0881
Dusty in Colour

Welcome to my blog!

Creepy Fright Night, what a terrific theme for the month of October.  I took an elegant frame (ATC Frame #1 - DA0673) and highlighted this fanciful skeleton all decked out for Halloween fun.  I left the chipboard in its natural form to coordinate with the kraft patterened paper.

Moroccan Mystery - Vicky

Hi, Vicky blogging today.
This month I decided to create something a little different -
some shabby chic fridge magnets made with fabulous Dusty Attic chipboard.

Here is a quick tutorial on how I created them:

STEP 1 - I used the Moroccan Accents set DA0837 and randomly dabbed them with gesso.

STEP 2 - I used Cranberry acrylic paint DA0910 on 4 pieces, and Dusty Pink acrylic paint DA0907 on 4 pieces (I did not paint the 4 smaller pieces).

STEP 3 - I topped the 8 painted pieces with Clear Crackle Varnish DA0900 and simply glued some chunky glitter glass to the 4 smaller pieces (without covering the very middle so I could add a gem there later on).

STEP 4 - I layered and glued my pieces together, including a magnet to the back of them (magnets from my local dollar store). Lastly, I added a gem to the middle.

Hope you like them!

For this month's Dusty Attic "creepy fright night" ATC theme,
I decided to use an animal element from the Coat of Arms set DA0833 - which I
covered with Soot paint DA0925 and topped with Clear Crackle Varnish DA0900.
I mounted it in the middle portion of the ATC frame DA0876 - which I painted with
Navajo White paint DA0903 and stippled on some Sunburnt Orange paint DA0906.
Finally, I added some casing (discard pieces) of the Sweet Pea Border DA0593 to
the background - which I painted in Lavender Blush DA0911 and then spritz
with a dark purple mist, letting it pool on the edges.

Thanks for stopping by, I will be back in a few days with a layout

Note Book - Louise

Today I would like to share with you a Dusty Attic Note Book that I have altered the front cover of. Now, I am one of those people who HAVE to keep lists. Then I need lists to remind me of the lists I have. So I needed a place to put all of these lists, note and to-dos down in one place, hence, the new notebook :-) ...and since this will mostly be a work/crafting book, it signifies fun but also time management!

After Gessoing, spritzing, texturizing the cover, I cut up and glued down some of the Dusty Attic Clock skeletons. These are not a New DA product, but definitely one I will constantly keep in my stash!
I painted and spritzed these to a similar effect as the cover, and added some more spritz after they had been stuck down to allow drips to run around the chipboard shapes.

I then had fun stamping, gluing on metal embellishments and an assortment of Dusty Attic Blooms. These were already spritzed to match the colours used so far, but once in situ, I added some gesso and more spritz until I was happy with the end result.

The final finishing touch was the DA 'Fun Times' chipboard words. I kept these simple with solid black acrylic, and then a brush of gesso to highlight.

Sommarlek - Helena

Sommarlek 2

I fell in love with the Dusty Attic Bicycle (DA0880) the minute I saw it, but I have not found the right layout to use it on, until now! I have scrapped about my darling daughter and her cousin when they played in our garden this summer, and then used the bicycle and other Dusty Attic chipboard pieces to create an outdoor scene.

I started with creating my background. Since the background paper (from BoBunny) had a door on it, I decided to make a brick wall around it, using bricks from Brick Wall Panel (DA0316). I started with painting the paper with white gesso and misted with grey glimmer mist. I then used a brick stencil here and there, before I glued Dusty Attic bricks on the paper. I then painted the bricks with white gesso and Shimmerz Texturez (which I put on using my finger tips - the best way to get an uneven result, which I wanted for this page).

The bicycle I painted white, and then I painted some of the details with Dusty in Color, Oceania (DA0912). I then used Clear Gloss Varnish (DA0901) on the saddle and the basket. I also put on some Fairy Dust Glitter on the basket.

The title "sommarlek" means "summer play" and I used the mini ABC set (DA0862) raw.

In the upper left corner I put a Gothic ATC window (DA0795) that I painted white and then put some Shimmerz Texturez on.

If you look closely you can also spot some Mini Butterflies (DA0893).

And here are a couple of more close-ups:

I have used Texturez on the flowers too:

Creepy Fright Night ATC - Helena

October ATC frame

This month's ATC theme - Creepy Fright Night - was so much fun to work with, and I finally got to use the Raven (DA0179) that I have had for some time. I have also used an ATC-frame #2 (DA0876) and a piece of a Vine Corner (DA0753).

I painted all the chipboard pieces with black glimmer glam. Then I used a sponge and painted the leaves of the vine with Dusty in Color - Vintage Gold (DA0926) and Fine Silver (DA0927). I also put some gold paint on the raven. Then I put Clear Gloss Varnish (DA0901) on both the raven and the leaves.

Have you noticed the spider on the background paper? Creepy, huh?!

Will be back tomorrow with another blog post

Tempus Fugit - By Gabbi

As most of you know by now, I have two daughters and no sons so most of my scrapping is done in a more feminine style. But I do have a bunch of handsome nephews and my dear husband that I occasionally get to scrap, so I was so thrilled to see that the new ' Vintage Autumn Basics' collection has a big variety of both masculine and feminine paper designs.

I recently received this beautiful collection and while normally I automatically reach for the more feminine papers, this time around I wanted to scrap in a more masculine style. I had this photo of my dear husband Steve and my cutie-pie nephew Jared at a retirement party for Steve's older brother. The title on the page 'Tempus Fugit' (Latin for 'Time Flies') was just perfect for this photo! It seems like yesterday that we were baby sitting my young nephews when Steve's brother and his wife would go on trips, and now my BIL is passing down the reigns of his company to my nephews! Time really does fly! (the little girls you sometimes see me scrapping are Jared's little girls!). For this page I went with the 'time' theme and used lots of the clock images in this collection, as well as layering a number of the patterned papers. I started out by fussy cutting out a bunch of the clock designs.

Here I used the Dusty Attic Wall Clock #2, but I cut and pasted one of the clocks from the Vintage Autumn Basics papers to the face of the clock. I dressed the chipboard up a bit by using a bronze metalic paint and adding some dots and details (I used Scribbles Bronze paint....from Michaels). The zipper is also a chipboard design from Dusty Attic (I wanted to try and stick to masculine style embellishments for the majority of the the decorations....and the Dusty Attic zipper is one of my all time favourites!).

I had this cute metal stopwatch embellishment that I found at Michaels, I didn't love the clock design they had used on this embellishment, so again I cut out one of the clock designs from the Maja paper, tinted the edges lightly with blue chalk ink and pasted it on the clock. The chipboard gears are Dusty Attic, as are the roses...the larger blue flowers are from Petaloo (Darjeeling collection....I think the are are really good match to the Maja collection).

I always like to use scraps of burlap for masculine layouts, I think it adds that nice textural element to the page that lace usually adds to my more feminine pages. Another nice masculine element to use is corrugated cardboard, metal, buttons and chipboard elements. Here are the Dusty Attic goodies I used on this page today (You can find these products at the Dusty Attic Website and I also have a listing in the rightside panel of my blog (Such A Pretty Mess blogspot) for Dusty Attic Retailers in USA and Canada)....
I hope you enjoyed my masculine style page today, and hope you will give this beautiful new collection a try whether you scrap in the masculine or feminine style! xo

Hallowheen ATC .. then made into a card - Rachelle

Hello, here is my first ATC I did for Dusty Attic. The theme for October is Halloween. Its amazing how many mini's you can get on a 2.5x3.5. This was a lot of fun to do!!!
I used black gold tattered angels on the ATC frame, then on the oval part I applied some rock candy crackle.I took a hammer & scattered a mirror, glued it on to the oval, using a thick layer of crackle. When that dried I used the hammer again to scatter the mirror more, then using a brush I applied some post box red ink spray,on to the crackle to make it look like blood. On the base of the chandelier I used caramel apple TA,then a thick coat of  rock candy crackle & once that dried I applied black gold tattered angels, then rubbed on some viva gold metallic rub.On the rest of the chandelier I used a black liquid pearls on the candles & the hanging parts. On the flames I used ruby red liquid pearls, when that dried I rubbed on some gold liquid pearls using my finger.I used black gold tattered angels on the web, then inked the edges with black, then rubbed on some inka gold metallic rub.I used caramel apple TA on the wicker fence, chair & dress form. On the chair I applied some rock candy crackle, cut out a piece of paper for the seat, then inked the edges. I died cheesecloth using black gold TA. I then dressed the dress form using strips of the cheesecloth,a piece of lace & ribbon, then added some bling.
Here are all the mini's that I used on the ATC:
Mini ATC Frame #1(DA0673)
Mini Rocking Chair (DA0633)
Mini Vintage Chandelier (DA0625)
Spider & Web Set (DA0612)

Mini Wire Dress Form (DA0670)

Mini Wicker Fence (DA0865)
I decided to make a card to go with the ATC. I have had this paper from My Minds Eye for a couple years,so I might as well use it!

 I used the Branches (DA0633)
On the branch's I used caramel apple TA, then rock candy crackle & once that dried I applied some black gold TA,then inked the edges....

Thank you so much for taking the time to look & I can't wait to see what you come up with, using this months ATC Challenge.....Rachelle
