"Picture Perfect" by Jennifer Hedger

Hello everyone
This is a layout I have done of Myself and Jen Burns from the Hyden Retreat last year
Those awesome photos where taken by none other than Michelle Grant !
(the Prankster of the retreat!)
I have used the new Lace Border #2 -the ribbon threads through the top perfectly
Added with some Dusty in Bloom flowers and Dusty in colour paints
the "perfect" letters are from the Typewriter alphabet

My ATC is was lots of fun to do using different Butterflies
In the background I have used the Mini Chicken Wire as well to add depth
Dusty in colour paints have been used and the beautiful hint of gold on
the butterflies comes from the Metalic Gold colour that we have.

I am really busy at the moment cutting and working on the next new release
Thanks for calling in
Jen

"Creative Dreams" & Tip by Vicky Alberto DT

Hello Dusty Fans, Vicky blogging here and I am so very excited to share my very first DT project post with you today. I thought it would be fitting to do a layout about achieving a creative dream of mine... which is designing for this fantastic company.

I have used the decorative scroll #1 and cut it into several pieces. I painted it with several gorgeous colours from the brand new "Dusty in Colour" release of acrylic paints. I simply splattered it all to give it an artsy feel.

Next I used some mini words for the title (again swiping here and there with dusty paints) and then added a pretty butterfly from the newly released chipboard styles. I also added several "Dusty in Bloom" flowers too!

FAUX REVERSE CRACKLE (technique used on the butterfly):
Step 1 - Generously stipple gesso onto chipboard and let dry (the paint "peaks" with settle a bit).
Step 2 - Let completely dry.
Step 3 - Dip your finger into chalk ink and gently rub over the textured bumps

This layout was inspired by the fantastic Dusty Attic January sketch. Don't forget to enter each month for a change to win some beautiful products!

"Happy Girl" by Robin Shakoor DT

Hello everyone!
There is nothing I love more than one stop shopping and now The Dusty Attic offers everything you need.  Whether you need acrylic paint, flowers or that special crackle finish to accent your chipboard pieces, The Dusty Attic is at your service!  This page is filled with lovely layers and was definitely handmade with love.

I used a combination of Dusty Pink, Cranberry and Sunburnt Orange acrylic paints to create this beautiful color gradient on my border.

Among the delicate Dusty in Bloom flowers from the Bridal Veil collection, I added a crocheted butterfly, paper fans and flowers.

Here is a close-up photo of the butterfly from Butterflies #2 which I painted with Navajo White and Dusty Pink paint from Dusty in Colour.  Once the paint was dry, I applied a layer of Dusty Attic Crackle Varnish.

I stamped floral images behind my photos to add interest to my page.  I used a small blossom from the Bridal Veil collection as part of my photo corner.

January ATC's by: Robin & Vicky

Here are some more gorgeous "Fairies and Flutterbies" ATC's by: Robin, Vicky.

Robin Shakoor - Flutterby

“Good things come in small packages.”  I can’t think of a better way to describe an ATC.  This is my first but surely not my last.  I used the beautiful Butterflies #2 to adorn my sweet fairies as they flutter about on my arch shaped canvas.  I added bits of cheescloth which I sprayed pink and tucked it behind the fairies.
I painted the butterflies using Dusty in Colour Navajo White acrylic paint.  Once dry, I topped with clear crackle varnish.  As a final touch, I added Dusty in Colour Dusty Pink acrylic paint to the dried crackle finish and wiped away the excess to reveal a beautiful pink design going through my butterflies.
Thanks so much for visiting us today.

Artist trading cards (ATCs) are the perfect little canvas (2.5" x 3.5") to play with product and create a pretty embellishment to add to a layout or as a focal point of a card/tag. Here I have added a Dusty Attic chipboard fountain (DA0653), painted in white, that I topped with a mix of pale pink fine german glitter glass combined with coarser "diamond dust" -- to create a Parisian themed card (using Meg's Garden papers). I love how combining the two glass products gives a soft vintage effect.

"Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice" by Olga Znamenskaya

Hello Dusty Attic fans - this is the first blog post for Olga - she has an AMAZING
Wax resist technique to share with you as well as her Awesome Project ...

DA0903 Dusty in Colour Navajo White
DA0907 Dusty in Colour Dusty Pink
DA0808 Dusty In Bloom Evening Blush

Tutorial "Shabby Chipboard"

Paint chipboard with dark brown acrylic paint (Dusty Attic Hot Chocolate).

When the paint dries take a candle and rub it against all corners. Dust away the remains of the wax - no white crumbs should be left on the surface!
Then cover everything with white acrylic paint  (Dusty Attic Navajo White ). You may apply a few layers.
When everything's dry to touch, we begin the most intriguing stage.
Use a piece of sand paper or a nail file to wipe away the paint on the waxed places. Be gentle - you don't want to sand away everything to the core. Don't be too passioante with sanding, it should look natural, so some places need only a light touch.

"Sixteen" - Mistra Hoolahan DT

Hi everyone, today I have this layout I have done for my son... he's just turned 16 and insists on very grungy work from me now, now flowers, no sparkles.  So this Tribal Frame was perfect to help fill the layout!

The frame was painted lightly with cream paint, then inked with Olive Vine, Patina and Truffle Mix'd Media Inx and spritzed with Mountain Meadow paint I had watered down.  After I had glued down the frame I filled some with modelling paste and then spritzed again with Mountain Meadow and Pesto paints.

The corrugated background is also from Dusty Attic.  I used the reverse with the solid paper and tore some away randomly, this was painted with cream and Mountain Meadow paint.

The Typewriter ABC Set was painted with Golden's Micaceous Iron Oxide and Stainless Steel paints, it' about as 'sparkly' as I'm allowed to get these days LOL!

Thanks for stopping by, until next time, take care of you!

"A Penny For Them" - Louise Collins DT & Tutorial

We all know that Dusty Attic is well known for its beautifully designed chipboard pieces, but did you know that you can also buy Dusty Attic Paints, Glosses and Blooms too?

I had so much fun playing with the wet mediums on this layout, so I decided to do you all a little tutorial on how I used DA products to create this weathered, distressed background.

Firstly, I began by marking where my main layers would be covering the background up. By doing this you avoid using your precious paints in places where they will not be seen...such a waste!

I chose to not cover my whole background, but just have the centre of my page distressed, so I thickly painted on some Dusty Attic Acrylic in Alabaster with a brush.

The next step was to paint on some of the DA Clear crackle varnish over the top of your dried White acrylic. This should be really thick for good big crackles, or thinner for smaller crackles.

The next step is the most important for this technique. You must WAIT!!
If you can stand it, preferably overnight, but otherwise at least a couple of hours. Once you start to see crackles appearing you can use a heat gun to finish the crackling process but NOT BEFORE!

When it is finished it will look something like this...

Now to add some colour, tone down the shine and emphasise the texture.
I have watered down two different coloured Dusty Attic Acrylic Paints, Hot Chocolate and Denim.
To do this a squirted a little in a small cup (an egg cup is ideal) and mixed in the same amount of water.

To emphasise the crackles, I used a sponge applicator to gently rub some of the Denim watered down paint into the crackles. Some of the clear varnish may flake off, but don't worry. This just adds to the distressed effect!
I then used a small paint brush to flick and splatter some of the Hot Chocolate watered down paint around the page. Some of this will also settle into the crackles.

After allowing it all to dry and stitching a zigzag border, I constructed the rest of my page on top of my weathered background.

I also used my Hot Chocolate Acrylic Paint to edge my corrugated cardboard sections, and with a sponge over a mask for the wood grain affects on the edge of my page.
